While a turkey dinner with all the trimmings is what many foreigners who buy a house in Puerto Vallarta consider a seasonal holiday dinner, traditional Mexican Christmas foods should certainly not be missed, and a festive favorite is Chiles en Nogada. Food is very much a part of Christmas celebrations in Puerto Vallarta and Chiles en Nogada is one of the most iconic dishes in the culinary culture of Mexico.

Rumoured to have been first served in the city of Puebla, Mexico, as a recipe created by an order of nuns in the 19th century, Chiles en Nogada is a dish of poblano chiles stuffed with picadillo – a delicious mixture of savory meats and dried fruits – smothered in a rich, creamy walnut sauce and garnished with pomegranate seeds and parsley. The green of the chiles and parsley, the white of the walnut sauce and the red of the pomegranate seeds, making it a perfectly colorful dish for Christmas, and it is also often served during Mexican Independence Day, as the colors reflect the red, white and green of the Mexican flag.

Be sure to add Chiles en Nogada to your holiday dining adventures at one of the many wonderful Mexican restaurants in Puerto Vallarta or try making in in the kitchen of your home or condo in Banderas Bay. Here is an easy-to-follow, authentic recipe for home: http://bit.ly/2EowNvc
