Safely Watching the 2024 Solar Eclipse from PV

There has been a lot of excitement surrounding watching the solar eclipse in Puerto Vallarta in 2024 as the city is located within the pathway that will offer some of the world’s best viewing. The solar eclipse will occur on April 8th – the first viewable eclipse in Mexico since 1991 – and although view totality will happen a little further north in the state of Sonora, the PV view will still be very impressive, weather permitting.

To safely view the solar eclipse, here are some tips.

1. Get the right equipment: To safely watch a solar eclipse, it is important to protect your eyes. Purchase a pair of solar viewing glasses or make a pinhole projector to view the eclipse without damaging your eyes. Viewing glasses are available at several kiosks and shops around Puerto Vallarta including Plaza Caracol in the Hotel Zone or the Macroplaza on Francisco Villa Avenue.

2. Find a good viewing spot: Choose a location with a clear view of the sky, away from tall buildings or trees that may obstruct your view. One of our beautiful Puerto Vallarta or Riviera Nayarit beaches would be a great spot.

3. Capture the moment: Bring your smartphone to take photos or video of the eclipse but be sure to use your camera’s solar filter feature to protect the lens and sensor.

4. Stay safe: Remember to never look directly at the sun without proper eye protection, as this can cause serious damage to your eyes.

So, get your equipment ready, grab some friends, and head to the beach to see the 2024 solar eclipse from Mexico. It is certain to be a celestial event to remember from a location that’s unforgettable.
