One of the questions our clients frequently ask when buying a second home in Puerto Vallarta is if they will need a car to be able to conveniently enjoy living in Mexico. While the answer greatly depends on which Puerto Vallarta neighborhood in which you choose to live, for the most part, living in Puerto Vallarta doesn’t require owning a vehicle. Here are some of the most popular methods of transportation in Puerto Vallarta.

  • If you own a condo in Old Town Puerto Vallarta, the Romantic Zone or the Cinco de Diciembre area, you can easily walk to almost everything in the downtown area. Residents living in Marina Vallarta also find it to be a very walkable location with restaurants, gyms, spas and a golf club right outside their doorsteps. And those who own a Puerto Vallarta home in Versalles, Fluvial or the Hotel Zone have easy access to a wide variety of schools, grocery stores, restaurants and nightlife.
  • Taxis are inexpensive and plentiful in Vallarta and you will find a taxi stand located every couple of blocks in downtown Puerto Vallarta.
  • The popular ride share app now has formal legal authorization to operate in Puerto Vallarta and users love the ease of the app, which allows for payment in cash or linked to your credit card or PayPal.
  • The Puerto Vallarta public bus system got a big upgrade with a large delivery of new, modern busses that are safe, clean, well-lit and very inexpensive to ride. The transit system reaches virtually every area in the region and you can identify the bus you need by reading its route written on the front window.

Not needing to own a car in Puerto Vallarta not only makes the cost of living more affordable but using public transportation and walking are not only more environmentally friendly options, but they are great ways to really get to know your new community in Mexico.
